How Rauf Khoffner thought of kick starting Khoffner Brewery?

Rauf Khoffner isn’t a familiar face in South Florida, although he comes from a long line of German brewers. Khoffner's German grandfather built beer production plants in Greece and Turkey in the early 1930s. After moving in Turkey, the family name became associated with high-quality, traditional beer varieties.

For 40 years, Khoffner's father ran the brewery, with young Rauf scrubbing tanks and sweeping floors. Moreover, khoffner was the most popular kid in middle school due of his access to the brewery, which few people know about.

He learned to brew under the centuries-old German Beer Purity Law and then travelled extensively to research beer production at the age of 18 because he was the first of his family to be born in Turkey. He learned the craft and continued his family's brewing tradition until the Turkish government cancelled the brewery's licence in 2012 owing to a cultural and religious shift away from alcohol consumption.

Khoffner moved to the United States when his brewery was closed down, and further continued to study beer production by visiting some of the country's top brewers. He and his partner Evan Kagan relaunched Khoffner Brewery as Khoffner Brewery USA in 2015.

Khoffner, who just established a restaurant in Fort Lauderdale, combines his grandfather's recipes and his father's Old World talents with a drive to share and discover in ways he never could have dreamed as a child growing up in Turkey or Germany.

Both Khoffner and Evan Kagan are currently working on expanding the brand to additional cities and states across the United States. While some restrictions and procedures may make this a difficult endeavor, the pair is upbeat and has an unrivalled futuristic vision.
